What do you write in a project scope?
A well-written project or product scope includes several key components. Below are just a few of the elements included in the template we’ve created:
- Business Case / Mission – The Business Case (or Mission) justifies the project and defines the criteria by which project success will be measured.
- Background / Statement of Need – The Project Background describes what the problem is and why it exists. The Statement of Need explains why the project is developing the product.
- Goals and Objectives – Goals define what you have to do to realize the need as outlined in the Statement of Need. Objectives are initiatives that implement the goals.
- Stakeholders – Stakeholders include 1) those with a vested interest in the project’s outcome, 2) those that are influential, and 3) those participating in one or more lifecycle stages of the project.
